                Fun Run. September 2013

 Sports Day - MONDAY 22ND JULY 2013

For the first time Sports day will be held off-site this year. Parents who wish to attend this event must complete the slip and return it to school by Friday 19th July.

Students will be required to make their own way to the Arena, so travel options have been created to advise students of the best way to get there from various locations. If you would prefer to drive your daughter there, this too is an option.

Sports Award Evening - MONDAY 1ST JULY 2013

This year the PE department have organised an exclusive event for students who have shown continued commitment to sport throughout the year. Various awards will be given out on the night along with special guest speakers. Light refreshments will also be available. We want to use this opportunity to show these students how proud we are of their achievements in sport and that we are committed to helping them develop.

The Physical Education Department at St. Martin-in-the-Field High School is a very successful, innovative department. Our departmental ethos is what drives all aspects of our PE curriculum. ‘We aim to enable all pupils to have an outstanding experience of PE throughout their time at the school and therefore achieve their true potential’. Pupils will experience a range of sports and will be challenged not only to improve practical abilities but be encouraged to develop personal, social and decision making skills.

The department consists of 7 members of staff that have a variety of roles appertaining to the school and the specialisms required.

The school enjoys a range of sporting facilities including a large playing field, 2 outdoor netball courts, a dance studio, gymnasium and a large multi-use sports hall.

We strive to make young people healthier, encourage them to develop their self-discipline, teamwork skills, develop their leadership potential and introduce them to activities they may enjoy and derive health benefits from for a  lifetime. We believe that in order to learn and function effectively students must arrive to all lessons with correct PE kit ready to participate.

If students wish to study and experience PE and sport beyond the core curriculum they can opt to join the PE, Sport and Leadership Academy in KS4 and KS5. There are a number of courses and pathways on offer to suit all students regardless of their ability.

St Martin's Faces

St. Martin-in-the-Fields High School for Girls was founded in 1699 thus we have a tradition and experience of education that extends over 300 years. In the mid-17th century, our church St. Martin-in-the-Fields and the SPCK (Society for Promoting Christian Knowledge) were headed by radical thinkers who believed that a school should be provided to educate the girls of the parish. The consensus then was that only boys required a formal education.

Originally, the school was based in Charing Cross Road, close to our founding church. Near the beginning of the last century, however, it was felt that a larger building with extensive grounds and playing fields was necessary, so in 1928 the School moved to its present home in Tulse Hill. It was officially opened by the Duchess of York, who was later given the title of Queen Mother. Though we are now geographically separated, we maintain strong links with the church in Trafalgar Square.

Today, over three hundred years later, St. Martin’s is a fully comprehensive Church of England Academy with a strong Christian ethos. The school has Technology and Sports College status and remains committed to serving our local multi-ethnic community by offering a high quality of education from Key Stage 3 to Sixth Form level.

The school is proud to have Sportsmark and to be an Ambassador School for Gifted and Talented Youth.
