Fun Run. September 2013
Sports Day - MONDAY 22ND JULY 2013
For the first time Sports day will be held off-site this year. Parents who wish to attend this event must complete the slip and return it to school by Friday 19th July.
Students will be required to make their own way to the Arena, so travel options have been created to advise students of the best way to get there from various locations. If you would prefer to drive your daughter there, this too is an option.
Sports Award Evening - MONDAY 1ST JULY 2013
This year the PE department have organised an exclusive event for students who have shown continued commitment to sport throughout the year. Various awards will be given out on the night along with special guest speakers. Light refreshments will also be available. We want to use this opportunity to show these students how proud we are of their achievements in sport and that we are committed to helping them develop.
PHYSICAL EDUCATION DEPARTMENT
The Physical Education Department at St. Martin-in-the-Field High School is a very successful, innovative department. Our departmental ethos is what drives all aspects of our PE curriculum. ‘We aim to enable all pupils to have an outstanding experience of PE throughout their time at the school and therefore achieve their true potential’. Pupils will experience a range of sports and will be challenged not only to improve practical abilities but be encouraged to develop personal, social and decision making skills.
The department consists of 7 members of staff that have a variety of roles appertaining to the school and the specialisms required.
The school enjoys a range of sporting facilities including a large playing field, 2 outdoor netball courts, a dance studio, gymnasium and a large multi-use sports hall.
We strive to make young people healthier, encourage them to develop their self-discipline, teamwork skills, develop their leadership potential and introduce them to activities they may enjoy and derive health benefits from for a lifetime. We believe that in order to learn and function effectively students must arrive to all lessons with correct PE kit ready to participate.
If students wish to study and experience PE and sport beyond the core curriculum they can opt to join the PE, Sport and Leadership Academy in KS4 and KS5. There are a number of courses and pathways on offer to suit all students regardless of their ability.
•AS/A2 Level PE
•Emergency Aid Course
Extracurricular provision is wide and varied and all students have the opportunity to participate at their own level in both competitive and recreational activities. Extracurricular activities change termly to accommodate training for local and national competitions. Strong club links have been established with local clubs to provide external training for students who wish to go further in sport. For more information click on the relevant club link below:
At St. Martins we are dedicated to providing high quality PE lessons not only to our students but in and around the community. We pride ourselves on the work that we do with our local primary schools; organising festivals in a variety of sports, hosting PE insets, delivering coaching sessions and providing free access to sporting facilities particularly for sports days.
PE events and up-coming fixtures can be found on the PE calender below.
